Bournemouth and Hurn

Busy roads (particularly the B3073 and A338) and the River Stour are all barriers for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and disabled users in the areas of Hurn and Bournemouth.  This project focuses on the construction of a new bridge across the River Stour from Throop, on the site of the Old Ford, to link up with Pig Shoot Lane.  The much needed new bridge over the River Stour and a replacement bridge over the Leaden Stour which will give cyclists, walkers, horse riders and wheelchair users a direct link from Throop to Parley Lane. There will also be improved crossing points at Castle Lane West, Parley Lane and where Hurn Court Lane meets the busy B3073 Christchurch Road.

This project will also link to three schools and a leisure centre in Charminster giving local people and schoolchildren the opportunity to make everyday, local journeys by foot or by bike.  Links that will run off this main route, will also give local people fantastic opportunities to access nearby parkland and green spaces including Ramsdown Plantation and Hurn Forest and then onwards to the popular Castleman Trail, Oakdene Forest Park, Avon Heath and Moors Valley Country Parks.

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
