I understand that the parish council and county council have made some efforts to resolve the isuue of responsibility for the paths between the first bridge at the bottom of White Horse Lane and the bridge at the lock, but that these have not succeeded. I use these paths almost daily so I will make further enquiries about where and why previous attempts have failed and keep you posted.

Watermead access from White Horse Lane
Improving the paths North of the park (Cossington, Sileby) is all very well. Access to the park between White Horse Lane and Birstall Lock is by using the short distance of towpath alongside the canal. This is a stretch neglected for a number of years. The park paths are fine but getting to them is a nightmare for wheelchair users and families with push chairs. A short shower even in summer creates deep muddy puddles all along the towpath. People take to using an alternative path higher up but this too is one long mudslide in winter. Dog walkers are particularly affected - most arrive wearing wellies even in summertime. I believe that this stretch is the responsibility of the waterways not the council which is why it has been neglected - does anyone know otherwise?
