Kerry McQuade lives in picturesque but hilly Hebden Bridge, doesn't have a bicycle but tries to walk wherever possible; she says:
"The one major road through the valley is the A646 from Halifax through to Todmorden, which is busy night and day. Two days a week I work in Mytholmroyd, just a mile and a half away. I can take my car (pointless), a short bus or train ride (expensive), walk on the main road (always noisy and smelly) OR I can now take the lovely cycle route 66, which runs along the river on the side of a wooded hillside.
"Yesterday I saw a relaxed couple hand in hand walking their very relaxed dog, a young woman practising her sprint runs up and down with a stop watch, a couple of retired people on bikes, a friend walking to work, a kingfisher, a wren and two dippers.
