The narrow drawbridge linking Shoreham across the tidewater to Shoreham Beach has long been an obstacle, especially for cyclists. The proposal to renew this bridge, widen it and connect it to the town centre, Shoreham Station and other local destinations including schools, will create such a direct and convenient network of routes that walking and cycling will become the natural way of covering many journeys in this area. It will connect Shoreham to the sea and further enhance the east-west coastal route which now extends as far as Worthing.

Some Comments from the Pledges:
"A better footbridge would improve a key link between where people in Shoreham live, and their town centre. It also connects a key gap in National Cycle Network route 2 between Brighton and Worthing."
"The link would benefit Shoreham and cycle/walking access to the wider West Sussex area."

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
"Making it easy for millions of people to change their world by walking and cycling to the local places they want to go"
