Cardiff: the Ely River Connection

Cardiff - This proposal to open a bridge over the Ely River will complete a 6.5 mile (10.5 Kilometres) circuit around Cardiff Bay. It will make for a glorious walk or cycle ride and become a favourite promenade for residents and visitors alike.  Following the formal opening of the route across the Cardiff Barrage as part of the Coastal Access path the crossing of the Ely River is now the only break in the circuit and would make an essential link between the city centre and Penarth.  Both Cardiff and the Vale have been waiting for this bridge, which will serve as an excellent leisure and commuter route.

How will the local community benefit?

A selection of comments received from the pledges:

"Hwn yw'r datblygiad pwysicaf sydd ar gael ar hyn o bryd, er mwyn lleihau'r trafnidiaeth aruthrol a chynyddol o Benarth i Gaerdydd (wrth perswadio pobl i seiclo yn lle gyrru). "

"this is the most important development currently available to reduce vehicular traffic from Penarth to Cardiff (by persuading people to cycle)".

"This project would make a massive difference to my daily cycle commute.  I would be able to get from Penarth to Cardiff in safety without using the horrible Cogan Spur! I think it would encourage people to cycle to work and would provide great links to the new sports village."

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
