A selection of comments received from the pledges:
“When Network Rail counted 120 cyclists on one day in August using the rail crossing they immediately raised an objection on grounds of safety to access on this path for cyclists. It is part of a very popular off road route in East Kent for family groups, less confident cyclists and confident tourists. It does give an alternative route linking the North Kent Coast with the South Kent Coast. Linking Sandwich, Deal and Dover in the west or Ramsgate in the east. Tourism is beginning to pick up in Thanet and the Viking Coastal Trail, of which the above crossing should be a part, is an important contributor to the improvement of the economy in a deprived area.”
"This link is essential to the safe completion of the Viking Way circular route round Thanet. The railway crossing already exists as a farm accommodation level crossing, and is therefore being regularly used on an ad hoc basis by those wishing to to avoid retracing their steps after venturing on the Minster-Monkton-St. Nicholas cycle route. The nature of this crossing is such as to make it inherently dangerous, especially to inexperienced cyclists, and improvements must be made if Local and national goverment initiatives to encourage more cycling are to be implemented."

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
"Making it easy for millions of people to change their world by walking and cycling to the local places they want to go"
