The 1930 Abercromby Plan for Scunthorpe provided for a ridge of open space running from north to south through the town with wide views over the Trent Valley to the west. Whilst nearly all of this open space remains, it survives as disconnected pockets. This Connect2 proposal will unite these spaces by making a wonderful promenade path and putting in place positive crossings of each of the dividing roads. The scheme will Connect2 the town centre via the soon to be rejuvenated Central Park. In turn, this Connect2 project will act to extend Central Park to the southwest and northwest extremities of the town.
A selection of comments from the pledges:
"An area with a history of cycling requires a showcase project to encourage people back into the saddle."
"North Lincs council have all road users in mind and I applaud their efforts in this project"
"I cannot tell you how much I enjoy cycling in Holland and hope (in my lifetime) this will be the same for the area in which I live."
"This project will be of great benefit for the people of Scunthorpe and has my full support."
"Save the planet and save me having to drive somewhere to go for a cycle ride! Scunthorpe has NO leisure routes!"

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
"Making it easy for millions of people to change their world by walking and cycling to the local places they want to go"
