Reviving the route of the world's first steam engine to run successfully on rails, the Trevithick Trail has recently been restored to create a walking and cycling path. The trail, follows the line of the historic tramway but is cut in two by heavy, fast moving traffic on the A4060 Mountain Hare road in Pentrebach.
Trevithick Connect2 will build an iconic, shared-use bridge over the busy dual-carriageway. It will complete a continuous route on the Trevithick Trail of traffic free route with rich industrial heritage.
Connect2 will also complete traffic-free and mainly flat connections between Merthyr Tydfil, Pentrebach and Troed-y-Rhiw residential areas that link local railway stations, a number of schools, shops, and workplaces on the way.
Once completed, Trevithick Connect2 will become part of the wider Taff Trail network.
