Monmouth is cut off from the River Wye by the A40 Trunk Road. The redecking and restoration of an old iron railway bridge over the Wye would create an off-road route into town. From the bridge there is a unique view of the confluence of the Wye and the Monnow. This route would provide walking and cycling links to Wyesham, two schools, the Wye Valley Walk, the new Monmouth Showground, north to Symonds Yat along the eregrine Path, and South to Redbrook and beyond.
The shops in the main street of Monmouth all turn their backs on the River Monnow and the open countryside beyond. Providing a new foot/cycle bridge across the Monnow from Monmouth bus station into Vauxhall Fields and Drybridge Park, would create an attractive, peaceful route into town for people living in the Rockfield Road area and Osbaston and open up the hidden riverside for leisure activities.
Connecting up all these routes and paths with a restored iron bridge over the Wye and a new foot/cycle bridge over the Monnow would greatly enhance the ambiance of this riverside town and, after many years of fracture, the relationship between the town centre and the rivers would be restored.

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
