Conwy and Penmaenmawr

Conwy –

There are 20 reserve schemes across the UK and it is intended that individual schemes will be called forward should any of the 79 schemes comprising the final Connect2 Project find they are unable to complete their programme.

The imposing Penmaenbach and Pen-y-Clip headlands and the presence of the A55 expressway mean that cycling between Conwy town and the outlying settlements of Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan is neither safe nor attractive. The trip involves riding alongside and crossing this major trunk road that runs tight to the Chester – Holyhead main railway. A good route exists between the two headlands but is currently cut off at either end where both the road and railway enter major tunnels through each headland. This severance can be overcome through the introduction of new over bridges, ramps and a path across the Conwy Morfa Dunes, that will providing a scenic but practical link to the historic county town.

Conwy –

Mae 20 cynllun wrth gefn ar draws y DU a bwriedir i gynlluniau unigol gael eu galw ymlaen os bydd unrhyw un o'r 79 chynllun sy'n rhan o'r Prosiect Connect 2 terfynol yn gweld eu bod yn methu cwblhau eu rhaglen.

Mae pentiroedd urddasol Penmaenbach a Phen-y-clip a phresenoldeb ffordd gyflym yr A55 yn golygu nad yw beicio rhwng tref Conwy ac aneddiadau pellennig Penmaenmawr a Llanfairfechan yn ddiogel nac yn ddeniadol. Mae'r daith yn golygu reidio yn gyfochrog â, a chroesi, cefnffordd bwysig sy'n cadw'n dynn wrth brif linell reilffordd Caer-Caergybi. Mae llwybr da yn bodoli rhwng y ddau bentir ond ar hyn o bryd mae wedi'i dorri ar y ddau ben lle mae'r ffordd a'r rheilffordd yn mynd i dwneli mawr drwy'r ddau bentir. Gellir goresgyn y toriad hwn drwy gyflwyno pontydd a rampiau newydd a llwybr ar draws twyni tywod Morfa Conwy a fydd yn rhoi cyswllt atyniadol ond ymarferol i'r dref sirol hanesyddol.

How will the local community benefit?

Comments from the pledges:

"A crucial project in providing both a local and strategic route along the coast through this critical pinchpoint."

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
