Treforest Connect2 will overcome the barriers to walking and cycling that are typical of the South Wales Valleys where trunk-roads, railway lines, rivers and housing compete for space in the narrow valley floors. In particular, the Treforest scheme will provide links over the busy A470, the River Taff, and the north-south railway line.
Treforest Connect2 will create an attractive traffic-free spine though the centre of the town that will link Treforest with Pontypridd in the north and Church Village in the south. This route along the former Taff Vale Railway, will benefit from the close proximity of the beautiful River Taff and its rich industrial past. It will also provide the first safe and DDA compliant crossing of the live rail-line in Treforest. The Connect2 scheme will also help to link the network of traffic-free routes such as the famous Taff Trail and the community route planned from Church Village to Llantrisant.
Treforest Connect2 will benefit the local community by providing the opportunity to travel actively on traffic-free paths to get to a wide range of local facilities. These include links from the spine of the Connect2 network to the town centres of Treforest and Pontypridd, the River Taff and various primary schools, playgrounds and green spaces along the way.
The scheme will also make it easy for students in Treforest to travel by foot and bike between the campuses of the University of Glamorgan.

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
"Making it easy for millions of people to change their world by walking and cycling to the local places they want to go"
