The New Forest has a large number of excellent routes for pedestrians and cyclists. These are often each contained in separate Inclosures – South Oakley, Holmsley, Wilberley, Wootton Coppice and Set Thorns, for example, all of which are separated from each other by main roads. This ingenious scheme makes use of a spare span of the bridge which carries the main A35 road over the former railway in order to create a traffic-free crossing of this major road. Once this link is in place, it will form the focus of a number of routes linking the two villages and various Inclosures, making it possible to walk and cycle in the area. Sway railway station will now become an attractive stopping off point for this south-west corner of the Forest.

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
"Making it easy for millions of people to change their world by walking and cycling to the local places they want to go"
