Get your brain in Gear for Connect2
Children in West Sussex could win a new bike, just by learning more about a major project to help walkers and cyclists get around Shoreham. The Shoreham Harbour footbridge will be replaced and widened, meaning more of us will be able to use it for daily journeys to work, to school and the shops within the area.
Over the next few years the new bridge will be designed and built complementing work planned to improve walking and cycling from Shoreham Beach through the town centre to Shoreham by Sea railway station. The new bridge is expected to be completed late in 2012. Following the landslide win in December 2007 when Sustrans' Connect2 won £50million from the Big Lottery Fund for 79 walking and cycling schemes across the country, communities are coming together on Saturday 4th July for Connect2 Day - a day of celebration. Across the country - communities are celebrating with bike rides, led walks, street parties, open days and community processions. Here in West Sussex - the County Council are offering children the chance to chose a new bike for themselves. All youngsters need to do is answer three questions correctly about Connect 2 and cycling safety to go into a draw to win.
There are two age categories - five to 10 year olds and another for 11 to 16s. Henry Smith, leader of the County Council said: “The Shoreham Harbour footbridge is an important project for the area. By getting involved now, youngsters can learn about what is happening around them and possibly win a new bicycle.”
Simon Pratt, Sustrans' Regional Director for the South East, says: "I am delighted that the County Council is going to help more kids get on their bike with this great competition – it’s a great way for people to find out more about this great new route which will help more people to walk and cycle around the town."
