Darent Valley wins Brassey Awards 2009

The Darent Valley Path Improvements were outright winners of the Brassey Award 2009 for the best Community project in the South East.

On Friday 12th June the Darent Valley Path improvements were winners of the Brassey 2009 Awards for the best Community project in the South East. The certificate was presented by Elaine Lawford of the Institute of Civil Engineering. The certificate was awarded to the Darent Valley Path Improvements team which included Breheny (contractor), Halcrow Group Ltd (Consultant Engineers) and Dartford Borough Council as the client and key contributor to the design and concept.

Simon Pratt, Regional Director said “The final result is a triumph and all those involved are to be congratulated. Having visited the site myself shortly after completion, I can report that the tunnel is a delight to use and the designers and contractors are to be commended for their work on this project. The quality of the work is very good and it is a very attractive feature for the public to use, almost an attraction in its own right.”

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
