Celebrate Connect2 day!
Visit the Connect2 stand at a number of local events and celebrate green travel as part of Connect2 Day!
Over the next couple of weeks, members of the Sleaford to Leasingham Connect2 Steering Group – who are working with the Council and Sustrans to drive forward the network to connect communities over the busy A17 – are appearing at a number of events to promote the new route.
The first event in the series was the 125th Lincolnshire Show. This will be followed by Sleaford Farmers’ Market on Saturday July 4, Leasingham Village Fete on Sunday July 5, and the Waddington Airshow, running on both of these days. There will also be an appearance at St George’s College of Technology in Sleaford on Sunday July 11.
Visitors to the stand will not only be able to find out more about the project, but also be in the chance of winning a £50 voucher to spend in-store at Riverside Cycles, Sleaford. All people have to do is fill in their contact details to be entered into a prize draw, where a random winner will then be picked after the final event.
Each stand has been organised around the national Connect2 day on Saturday July 4. Connect2 day is celebrating the 79 schemes across the country which will help people choose to walk and cycle more for daily journeys to school, work or the shops.
Nicola Jones, area manager from Sustrans said: “Join us at the Connect2 day stall at these events across the county. We’re looking forward to sharing the latest news on your local Connect2 route and you may even be the lucky prize winner!”
Sustrans’ Connect2 won £50 million from the Big Lottery Fund's Living Landmarks: The People's Millions after winning a UK-wide public vote, and will work in conjunction with Lincolnshire County Council and North Kesteven District Council to complete the Leasingham to Sleaford route by 2013. However, it is hoped that it will be completed sooner.
Chairman of the Sleaford to Leasingham Connect2 Steering Group and North Kesteven District Councillor and Executive Board Member with responsibility for transport initiatives, Councillor Mike Gallagher said: “Sustrans’ Connect2 is a wonderful project, and it is great that these events are being held to celebrate its work in North Kesteven. The Leasingham to Sleaford route will be very valuable to the community, affording people a cheaper and more environmental way of getting to school and work, as well as encouraging visitors to the District.”
