Market Harborough, new links to town centre prove popular

New routes were constructed either end of the ‘millennium mile’ section of NCN route 6, and it now includes links to the local Community College, skate park, youth centre, town centre and the Brampton Valley Way. The additions to this route have proved very popular.

What does the local community think?

The additional use highlighted by the statistics below shows how the local community benefited, they wouldn't be using the route unless it made a difference to their lives:

• The route carries up to 399,000 trips per year

• 50,000 of those trips were by children walking and cycling to school

• Safety, convenience of the route and pleasant surroundings are all cited as reasons for using the route

• The number of respondents who could have used a car but chose not to has grown by over 6% to 38% since the works were completed

• 40% of users are going shopping and a third are visiting friends, relations or walking or cycling for leisure

• 20% of users use it to commute to work

• Over 60% of users are over the age of 60, and a quarter of users reported living in a household that does not have the use of a car

"This is a great honour; I love the thought of becoming part of the landscape alongside Dick Wagstaff and the great Richard Burton. I'm hoping that my sculpture might be able to persuade Burton's sculpture to quote some poetry of an evening, or at least a bit of War of the Worlds." Rob Brydon
